THE ILLUSTRATED FIELD GUIDE / HONEYWORDS

See what seven letters can make.

Build words of four letters or more using the hive. Every word must include the centre letter. You may repeat any letter. Each hive has a finite, edited Sudokuloft word list, and the counter tells you how many approved words remain.

01

Include the centre every time

A seven-letter hive with C at the centre; COIL is checked and LION is crossed out because it has no C.
COIL includes C. LION is missing the centre letter.

Use only the seven hive letters. The amber centre letter must appear at least once in each word. In this practice hive the centre is C: COIL includes it, but LION does not. A word can start or end with the centre letter, or put it in the middle.

02

Repeat a letter when you need it

The letters C, O, O, L form COOL beside a hive, with the two Os highlighted to show that letters can repeat.
One O tile can supply both Os in COOL.

There is only one O tile in the hive, but you can use it twice in COOL. Tap letters or type a word, then Submit word or press Enter. Accepted words enter your notebook; entering the same word again does not earn more points.

03

Know what earns points

Three scoring examples: COIL earns one point, COOLS earns five, and the seven-letter pangram CLOSING earns fourteen.
COIL = 1 point. COOLS = 5. CLOSING = 14, including its bonus.

A four-letter word earns 1 point. A longer word earns its length in points. A pangram uses all seven different letters at least once and earns 7 extra points. CLOSING has seven letters, uses this entire hive, and scores 14.

04

Find the edited list

A hive notebook shows COIL, COOL and CLOSING found, a counter at three of eleven, and eight empty marks for the remaining words.
3 of 11 approved words found; 8 still to discover.

Every hive has a fixed list of approved words. The example notebook has found 3 of 11, so eight remain. A valid English word may still be outside the list; a rejection never removes points. Easy hives have fewer approved words, followed by Medium and Hard.

THE FINISH LINE

What counts as complete?

Find every approved word to complete the hive. Score tracks your discoveries and pangram bonuses, while the word counter measures how far you are from the finish. There are 30 hives in each level.

ONE TO REMEMBER

A common wrong turn

A word must have at least four letters, include the centre and use no outside letters. Repeating a letter is allowed. This is an edited word collection, so it does not accept every word in a full English dictionary.

AT YOUR FINGERTIPS

Controls & a little help

Tap hive letters or type in the word field. Enter submits, Backspace deletes, and Clear empties the current word. Shuffle only rearranges the outer letters; the centre stays fixed. Word hint gives the first two letters and length of one missing approved word. Accepted words and score save; unsubmitted letters are temporary.
